Report Card Continued….

So here are the typewritten teacher comments for each of the 3 marking periods….I had 2 teachers – we changed classrooms for Math and Science…so they both had something to say about Elisabeth.

Apparently I was doing some “talking out of turn”, “visiting”, being irritable and defensive.   Hmmm – let’s think about this.  5th Grade – I turned 11 in the middle of the year, saw “the movie” about our soon-to-appear menstrual cycle (girls only of course) and was hitting puberty.  I think irritability and defensive is a little par for the course.  Either that, or I was just a big pain in the ass.  So it was probably a little of both.  Or maybe I was just bored.  In case you’ve forgotten Ms. Teacher, school can be a drag to a kid.

The odd thing in all this poor conduct I was showing, I managed to get very good grades – mostly A’s with a B sprinkled in here and there for good measure.  So take that!!

Defensive.  I guess some things never change. 🙂

My Report Card

I’ve always said that your elementary school report cards are an interesting portal into your early psyche…oooo, sounds ominous, doesn’t it?  But what I mean, is that looking back on your grades and your teacher comments, it’s a good way to step outside yourself and see the behaviors you exhibited as a child.

I looked at my 5th Grade report card….and as I’ve joked with my friends, it’s pretty clear I was having issues.

According to all my checkmarks, I:
Don’t respect authority (at times talks back)
Don’t show self control (quite talkative….that shows lack of self-control??)
Don’t cooperate with teachers and classmates
Don’t accept criticism in good spirit (umm, no, I’m a kid, what do you want from me)
Purposely disturbs others (from what, a nap?)
Don’t make good use of time (just sometimes….so SOMETIMES I do!)

C for the grade in conduct.  C was satisfactory.  With all those comments I should’ve gotten a D or an E (no F’s on this here grading scale).  Maybe they should’ve just strapped me to the monkey bars and let me swing and screech my way through reccess – I was obviously a feral child.

The written comments are even more solicitous.  Those to post next time!

Brett

I lost a lifelong friend this week – his name was Brett William Penney.
He was a good, kind, talented and funny man.  Funny doesn’t even do him justice.  Everyone, and I mean everyone, who ever met him, said the same thing – that guy is so funny.  Many considered him the “funniest man alive.”
We met in college, did shows together, dated, had a long-term relationship, worked jobs together, traveled together, moved to New York together, lived together, celebrated holidays together, broke-up, stayed friends, and he was even a groomsman at my wedding.
He used to look at me with his goofy grin and saw, “Awww, friendship.”

Friendship.  He was, and always will be, my friend.

Our college friend Joe Costa (pictured) posted these pics on Facebook….love it!

Yumm-E’s

Some good yumm-E’s this weekend….

In need of coffee on Sunday – ventured to new local Little Brown – Chocolate Bakery & Coffee by Max Brenner (Chocolate by the Bald Man owner) and it was heavenly.  What’s not to love?  I had a cappuccino and a Monkey Bread “muffin” (I guess you would call it)….banana, chocolate, pecans….can you say de-licious?!

And then – I had one of my favorite foods – a burger – at Bobby’s Flay’s burger joint “Bobby’s Burger Palace” (or BBP) out on Long Island.  A variety of gourmet burgers, fries (I had sweet potato), onion rings, shakes…the perfect combination.   You can even get your burger “crunchified” (with potato chips on top of the burger) but I didn’t do that (actually I forgot to ask for it when I was ordering) but it sounds sinfully child-like.  I will consider it for next time.  I ordered the Dallas burger which has coleslaw, pickles, cheese and bbq sauce.  Yee-haw.
